General description of the collection: The Edward H. Thomas papers include four letters written by General (GEN) Hamilton Howze to Brigadier General (BG) Edward H. Thomas, retired, from 11 November 1982 to 8 June 1984 regarding the wording and placement of a memorial tablet commemorating the fall of Rome and the roles of the 1st Special Service Force and Task Force Howze in that action. The collection also contains a letter from General (GEN) Matthew B. Ridgway to Thomas dated 23 October 1992 thanking him for copies of the 50th Anniversary Reunion booklet and program from the 505th Parachute Regimental Combat Team (RCT).

Hamilton Hawkins Howze (b. Dec. 21, 1908, White Plains, New York), Major General in the U.S. Army, graduated from West Point in 1930.
